 During normal tooth development a highly specialized protein
matrix provides the natural interface between the mineralizing root dentine and cells
forming a cellular cementum.BIORA AB was established in 1986 in Malmö, Sweden, to explore and develop a purified matrix as a new surgical aid in regenerative periodontal surgery. The product, Enamel Matrix Derivative (EMD), trade name EMDOGAIN, is applied in gel form to achieve biological regeneration of lost tooth attachment due to periodontal disease Emdogain WT is being designed for use during complicated wisdom tooth extractions to eliminate or reduce periodontal lesions that typically afflict neighboring teeth. Based on industry statistics, there are approximately ten million complicated tooth extractions performed annually in the US. Biora estimates that at least half of these procedures could potentially benefit from the application of Emdogain WT. .
